CHEO wins award for EHR implementation

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is the first hospital in Canada to see its outreach clinics be given a prestigious stage six electronic health records designation from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, which analyzes IT-related healthcare data.  Forty-three of CHEO’s outpatient clinics have gone paperless after adopting the Epic EHR system. The regional children’s hospital is one of just a handful of hospitals – less than one per cent of 650 hospitals in Canada – that are fully adopting a new searchable and shareable EHR system.

MDI Solutions was responsible for developing all interfaces (to internal and external systems) on the MD Link integration engine to support the Epic implementation.  MDI assigned two Bridges (internal Epic interface toolkit) certified integration resources to the  project, who coordinated the interface workflow design and development, and assisted CHEO staff with testing of the Epic clinical applications.

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), www.cheo.on.ca, is a pediatric health and research center providing outstanding family-centered patient care, pioneering breakthrough research, and training the health care professionals of tomorrow. CHEO houses the Provincial Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health and the Ontario Newborn Screening Program.
