November 2009 – PACS Migration

Sectra Ltd., Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, has contracted with MDI Solutions to provide migration services and software to support the migration of PACS data in Northern Ireland.

Continuing with the contact award and implementation of their PACS software with NIPACS (the Northern Ireland PACS project), Sectra selected MDI Solutions to migrate existing PACS data from a number of Trusts including: LVH (Cerner), Ulster (Fuji Synapse), Causeway (AGFA), Daisy Hill (Fuji Synapse) Craigavon (Siemens) and South Tyrone (AGFA).

MDI’s migration team will be tasked with migrating and validating upwards of 30+ terabytes of data for the six Trusts who make up NIPACS. MDI’s migration process will access data to the level of the Study UID, which enables identification down to the individual image level. MDI will coordinate all aspects of the data migration activity including:

  • negotiate network capacity with the local Trust and NIPACS to optimize the speed of the migration effort
  • query source PACS by Migration Server to identify all studies to be migrated
  • update each unique patient identifier as specified by NIPACS with a new regional HC&N
  • divert studies that cannot be uniquely identified to a data repository
