RIS Integration HL7 to XML

Sectra Ltd., Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, builds on their relationship with MDI Solutions by contracting with MDI to provide HL7 and database integration services for its RIS & Microdose Installation at Holly House to support Mammography workflow.

MDI is currently completing a multi-site PACS migration to Sectra’s PACS system for NIPACS (the Northern Ireland PACS project). Based on the success of the PACS Migration and a Sectra RIS to Misys archive integration at Dr. Gray’s Hospital at Elgin, Scotland, MDI have been contracted to develop HL7 interfaces between Sectra’s RIS and a unique PAS (HIS) called A-PAS.

Sectra are supplying a RIS, high availability PACS and Sectra MicroDose Mammography unit, with integration to a number of DICOM modalities. RIS and PACS workstations will be deployed in the department and a number of concurrent web clients will be available for accessing PACS images and reports throughout the organisation. Sectra RIS will integrate with Holly House Hospital’s A-PAS system (formerly Deltace) via MDI Solutions’ integration engine, MD Link.

Currently, the A- PAS (HIS) accepts and generates XML only. Utilizing the data manipulation capability of their integration engine, MD Link, MDI technical resources produced a solution to convert HL7 to XML for both inbound and outbound interfaces for RIS to support Patient Demographics, Lab Orders, Lab Results and Billing. This was achieved in a matter of weeks and Sectra and MDI technical resources collaborated to develop a new Sectra Specification Document for this unique PAS (HIS).
