MD Connect was developed to share a hospital’s data with physicians’ Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. With MD Connect, you can electronically transmit lab orders into a Laboratory Information System from an EMR, perform pre-admissions and send lab results, departmental reports, radiology reports and other patient information to EMR software systems. There is no need to purchase an expensive HL7 data feeds from the hospital’s HIS vendor with the use of MD Connect.

MD Connect consists of a Scripting Toolkit that is proven to provide real time bi-directional HIS/LIS interfacing and can process multiple communication threads simultaneously without interfering with other processes. MD Connect Scripting Toolkit provides a full featured, proven scripting environment complete with all the progressive scripting tools necessary to build, test and deploy your scripts from a single desktop application.

Workflow Designer Overview

The environment to develop a workflow in MD Connect is called the MD Connect Workflow Designer. The designer is comprised of four sections.

  • Ribbon Toolbar – Allows users to access workflow commands.
  • Integrated Development Environment (IDE) – Displays the current stream in an object model with a hierarchical view. Provides a way to drill down into specific application components (Windows stream).
  • Stream Pane – Displays current stream text view.
  • Workflow Properties – Provides object view of your workflow divided into Variables, Segments and Code Tags

Laboratory Outreach: An EMR becomes more useful with the addition of laboratory and radiology connectivity.

Electronic transmission of laboratory and radiology orders and results can save time. But getting all of the information filed right into your EMR patient records requires some initial setup work.

Workflow: Integrating laboratory and radiology orders and results into an EMR system creates the need for a workflow adjustment in one’s medical office. Instead of placing a bold sticky note on the lab result asking that your medical office-staff arrange for the patient to come in for an appointment, a virtual equivalent of this process has to take place.

The effective integration of laboratory and radiology orders and results into technology-based workflow is a major driver towards the greater adoption and use of EMR systems by physicians.

Interface difficulties: MD Connect provides a process for a natural and intuitive way of integrating health care patient data. The visual presentation of data is a critical piece of effective patient management. A physician has to be very comfortable with the way that data is presented to them. There is still more that can be done and in working with the physicians who have many ideas on how it could be improved to become more meaningful.

No HL7? No Problem – CattailsMD EHR connects to Ministry Health Systems Meditech system without the need for Meditech HL7

MD Connect is unique in being able to communicate between Meditech legacy-based applications – without HL7 interfaces – and physician EMR systems that only support HL7. This native support for legacy-based applications is distinct from other products that require expensive and time consuming HL7 interfaces to be retro-fitted.

The MD Connect solution allows hospital laboratories, clinical departments, ambulatory businesses, and physician practices to participate in a health information exchange with all others across the healthcare community. Our EMR strategy electronically delivers mostly any electronic patient data to physician EMR’s, meeting the physicians’ real-time clinical information, while offering the healthcare community the extraordinary benefits of a Connected healthcare.

Laboratories are looking to connect to their clients, Compete against the national laboratories, and Comply with government regulations with great demand from the outreach environment to provide an order-entry and results solution from an EMR application to a legacy-based application – regardless of whether the HCIS/LIS system has a traditional HL7 interface or not (eg. Meditech).

MD Connect is unique to legacy HIS/LIS screen level integration as each interface is developed as a program and run as an executable (.exe). Once the data is captured by the software it can be transmitted into virtually any format such as HL7, XML, X12 (others) via TCPIP. Now, Orders can be placed from the physician EMR for laboratory, microbiology and blood bank tests. MD Connect is the solution that allows physicians to enter lab orders and retrieve results through their EMR.
