MDI Interface Engine deployed on HIPAA compliant AWS

Diasend, Gothenburg, Sweden has engaged with MDI Solutions to install their interface engine, MDI Link, on Amazon’s web service (AWS) to support their diabetes management business.

Diasend provides one of the most user friendly and compatible systems for diabetes device output viewing, analysis and review.  MDI was approached to provide a cloud-based solution that could facilitate data exchange between their system and EMR’s.  MDI completed a market assessment of HIPAA compliant web hosting services and determined that Amazon offered the best environment to securely process, maintain, and store protected health information.  As part of the service delivery, MDI’s technical team installed MD Link on AWS and used its RESTful web-services plug-in to securely transmit Diasend Results data to their customers.  The device results will be sent in a number of different ways including: discrete results via HL7, URL link to results and PDF embedded in HL7 message.  MD Link will also be used to create PDF’s from the device output, and then transfer the relevant data to a hospital’s EMR.
